Role at Cawthron
David is a marine ecologist with specialist expertise in the following areas:
- aquaculture – effects on marine ecology
- recovery and resilience of benthic marine communities
- coastal rocky shore ecology – links with nearshore oceanography
- ecology and ecotoxicology of Pleurobranchaea maculata (sea slug) – New Zealand's most toxic marine animal.
David is a project manager for large-scale multidisciplinary projects including:
- coastal plan-change applications for finfish farming
- assessments of ecological affects for the aquaculture and oil industries
- risks of tetrodotoxin to kaimoana, with Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga.
David has also co-supervised two Masters students.
